I sometimes like starting off the school year by having students take part in collaborative art projects. Even though for the most part I have students work individually on projects, I consider this a great ice breaker and a chance to set the tone for the rest of the semester.
This time, I selected a different famous painting for each grade I would be teaching and broke it up into 25 squares/rectangles. Each student received his/her own piece and replicated any main lines or shapes onto a piece of cardboard. Later on they used oil pastels to add color and helped out making sense of the different pieces in order to paste them together.
A bonus is that these can be displayed on time for Open Houses at the beginning of the year because they are finished pretty quickly (it took my students less than two periods to complete them), and/or as a great decoration for the outside of the Art room! I much prefer to decorate with student artwork than with my own!
I will be posting pictures of what my classroom looks like soon! Have a great day!
In this section of my website I will be posting helpful information
for other artists and
art educators, as well
as my own thoughts
and personal artistic progress as I move from working full-time to creative entrepreneurship!
